BILLY FRY

Owner - Trek Bicycle Store of Victoria

Bill Fry was born and raised in Toronto where his love of road cycling – which led to mountain biking – started out merely as a way to cross-train for hockey.

Once on the West Coast that lifestyle, including skiing at Mount Washington, flourished and his hockey days were behind him.

Fry moved from Scarborough to Victoria in 1995, lived for a time in Esquimalt (“which I still have a soft spot for”)  and now resides in Saanich. In 2008, he was working at a bike store when the opportunity arose to open his own shop, Trek Bicycle Store of Victoria. Soon after he opened its doors, a recession hit. Then came a pandemic. Despite all that, the store is thriving. Fry himself has spent almost three decades supporting cycling-based charities, whether by training their riders or servicing their bikes. He remains an avid road cyclist and still mountain bikes “to scare myself.”

In the winter you can find him in the mountains finding crazy lines to ski down.

When Fry isn’t working he pens songs and poetry, plays Scrabble, and practises guitar. He’s also the lead singer of the internationally acclaimed rock band Big Font.

Given his close association with cancer through other charities and the experiences of family and friends, Fry was first on board with End2End, making Trek Bike Store of Victoria the event’s organizing sponsor.: “I love that the money raised will stay so local in an amazing group, Island Kids Cancer Association; my hope is that one day we can raise more money than they need.”
