STEVE FOSTER

Retired RCMP Officer

At a time of renewed patriotism, when everyone is looking for symbols of Canada at its finest, there’s nothing more emblematic than a picture of the Canadian Mountie.

Foster, 64, served the Sidney-North Saanich Detachment for 13 years. He then moved to the Island District headquarters building in Victoria where he worked on several high-profile units including the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team as well as a section investigating serious organized crime. He retired in 2023 after 25 years in the police service.

The father of Stephanie and Adam and grandfather to three-year-old Henry, Foster worked as a musician and arborist before he joined the force. He passed a love of policing to his son who is also an RCMP officer, in the West Shore detachment. Steve and Adam were training to be the first father-and-son duo in the Tour de Rock last year when they were both seriously injured; only dad recovered in time to ride. Born in Nova Scotia and now living in Metchosin, Foster enjoys golf, hockey and cycling.

Foster’s wife’s family owned and operated Saunders Subaru in Colwood for 40 years, and while there worked closely with Susan Kerr, founder of Island Kids Cancer Association. In 2005, Kerr’s five-year-old son Jacob was diagnosed with cancer; he died in 2019. Foster’s son also had his good friend AJ die at age five from cancer. Those experiences underscore why Foster wants to help End2End raise funds for IKCA and families in need.
