So, do you have what it takes to ride the End2End cycling challenge?
Could you handle sleep deprivation, climbing some steep, middle-of-nowhere north Island hill in the 3 a.m. rain when every fibre in your body just wants to call it quits?
Could you, without complaining, haul yourself into the saddle for the fifth time in two days for yet another 50-kilometre leg of the non-stop journey from Victoria to Port Hardy and back?
Could you do so while recognizing that the physical challenge is secondary, that the bike relay is merely a way to achieve End2End’s main purpose, raising money for the Island Kids Cancer Association? That’s the real goal: helping the families of cancer-stricken children on Vancouver Island. As such, the eight riders on next year’s End2End team will be expected to take part in fundraising activities in the weeks and months leading up to the relay. It’s a big commitment.
From now until Oct. 15, we’ll be taking applications from cyclists who are keen to ride the the 2027 End2End relay. As usual, the June 15-17 event will feature a whole new team, no one having ridden it before. That’s done deliberately, to keep things fresh and to expand the family of people eager to support the cause.
